Dealing With Depression Part 2
Frank Ottati

Review of sermon #1: Dealing with Depression
God took care of Elijah's Physical Needs
God took care of Elijah's Spiritual Needs
God sent him to work
Reactions that lead into depression:
1. Indecision, a double minded person, is unstable in all the ways, James 1:8. Indecision is often the precursor of depression.
2. Anger, "depression is frozen rage"
3. Guilt, dries the bones, Ps. 32:3
4. Injustice: tries to fix the problems of the world

Suggestions on how to deal with depression?
1. Avoid being alone. 1 Sam 22:1,2
2. Seek help from others, be decided, Gal. 6:1,2
3. Confess, when David admitted, relief came, 32:4,5
4. Sing, 1 Sam. 16: 14-23
5. Praise and Give Thanks, 1 Thess. 5:18
6. Lean on the Word. Of 150 Psalms, 48 speak to this condition: 6,13,18,23,25, 27,31,32,34,37,38,39,40,42,43,46,51,55,57,62,63,69,71,73,77,84,86,90,91,94,95, 103,104,107,110,116,118,121,123,124,130,138,139,141,142,143,146 and 147.
7. Develop God's presence, Ps. 42:5. God's face is the guarantee of His personal presence. You are not alone, the Holy Spirit will be with you, John 14:16,18-19.
8. Story: Nurse holding hand of a man who just went through heart surgery. God's hand will be with you always.

Invitation: Do you feel depressed? Down? Sad? Gloomy? Remember Jesus said: "I will be with you always, even to the end," Matt. 28:20, Leave your Burdens at Calvary.
