DEALING WITH DEPRESSION Part #1

Depression is the most common of all mental health problems. It affects millions of people in the USA alone each year: Christians and non-Christians.

Symptoms of Depression: feeling down, blue, sad. Cannot concentrate, increase or decrease of appetite, can't sleep or sleep too much. Interest in sex often disappears. Feel hopeless and may contemplate or commit suicide. You can see it in their face, Ps. 43:5 and tears, Ps. 42:3

1 Kings 19:1-18
Elijah was depressed and wanted to die, 19:1-4

How God dealt with Elijah's depression?
1. God took care of his physical needs, 19:5-8
a. Slept, 19:5
b. Touched, 19:5
c. Ate and drank, and slept, 19:6
d. Touched, ate, drank and walked (exercise)19:7,8
2. God took care of his spiritual needs, 19:9-14
a. God talked to Elijah, Elijah talked back: Talk Therapy. Spend time with God daily.
b. We have to recognize our situation
c. We have to talk about our feelings to someone, 10,14
d. If depression persists, see your Dr. for counseling & medication
3. God sent Elijah back to work, 19:15-18
a. Get out of the cave and anoint others
b. Bless others and forget about yourself
c. Be involved
d. Touch someone: with a word of encouragement, with food, with a Bible Study, etc.

Invitation: Are you depressed? There is help. Tell it to God and to a friend, and if it persists; tell it to your Dr.and get counseling
Remember burdens are lifted at Calvary
