THE CAVE
Sermon Series on the Life of David #4
Frank Ottati

Running away from Saul, David had lost his job, his wife, his Pastor, his best friend and he was loosing his head, 1 Samuel 19-21. At this time he wrote Psalm 34, "I will bless the Lord at all times…"
Right after this, David hid from Saul inside the Cave of Adullam, and here he wrote Psalm 142.
David felt lonely, persecuted, forsaken. He asked for God's help, the Lord answered his prayer and sent him people that were in a worse state than he was. In other words, God was telling him to "forget himself and help others if he wanted to get out of the cave"1 Samuel 22:1,2
God sent: his father, who didn't called him to worship and did not mentioned his name when Samuel came to anoint him as a future king of Israel. 1 Samuel 16:1-11
His brothers, who criticized him when he offered himself to fight with Goliath, 1 Sam 17:28
Those who were in distress, in debt and bitter
A total of 400 people! Who latter became 600! 1 Sam. 23:13
In the cave he wrote another Psalm, 57.
David made a difference in them: These people became part of his cabinet and the strong men in his army.
Our words, behavior, attitude can make a positive difference on people who surround us.
We all have to go through the cave. We can make it bitter or we can make it better. The choice is in your hands.
Challenge: To make a positive difference in someone's life during next week.
